Quang Ninh- a big province located along the Northeasten coast of Viet Nam, has the shape of an oblique rectangle inclined in a northeast-to-southwest direction.

To the west, the province borders an extended forest and mountain region. To the east, it is adjacent to the Gulf of Tokin. It features a meandering coastline, numerous estuaries and tidal flats and more than 2,000 large and small islands. Exactly 1,030 of these have been named. Quảng Ninh’s coordinates are longitude 106º26’ to 108º31’ east and latitude 20º40’ to 21º40’ north. Its width from east to west is 195 km (at the widest part).

 

 

 

The total length from north to south of the province is 102 km. The northernmost point is in mountain range at Mo Toòng village (Hoanh Mô Commune, Binh Lieu District). The southernmost point is in Hạ Mai Island (Ngoc Vung Commune, Van Don District). The westernmost point is in Vang Chua River (Binh Duong and Nguyen Hue communes, Ðong Trieu District). The easternmost point is inland at Got Cape, northeast of Tra Co Commune, Mong Cai City. Quảng Ninh has a common international border with the People’s Republic of China. The total area of Quang Ninh is 611.081,3 hectares (ha), of which 243.833,2 ha is agricultural land, 36.513 ha is used land; 6.815,9 ha is housing land and 268.158,3 ha is unemployed land. It has a total of three citites, one town, 10 disticts and 186 commnues.


Quang Ninh has an important location in the pivotal economic zone in the North of Viet Nam, with Ha Noi, Hai Phong, Hai Duong, Hung Yen, Bac Ninh and Vinh Phuc. However, it has a distingush advantages compared with the rests of the zone.The provine’s border is adjacent to China with the length of 132,8 km. It has Mong Cai international gate, two national gates named Hoanh Mo and Bac Phong Sinh, and the international seaport system.

 

 

 

Quang Ninh has a huge potential to develop tourism with Ha Long Bay- a World Heritage Site, and marine economy. Especially, it has much advantages of developing the system of deep-water seaport that can welcome  big tonnage vessels; domestic ports, the system of road and railway. These can meet the deamands of goods exchange with other provinces in the zone. Besides, Quang Ninh has advantages of formig navy and aviation relationship with China, other countries in the region and the world.

Due to its importance in the eco-socio development and defence- security ensurane of the nationwide, Quang Ninh is definied to build Quang Ninh to be one of the important transportation gates of the major economic zone in the North in the region and the world; a dynamic zone for the coastal economy with high and steady growth speed, which has a growing position and power to promote growth and competitiveness.( Decision No 269/2006/QĐ- TTg dated 24/11/2006 of Prime Minister.
