Quang Ninh pockets 11 medals at national swimming-diving 25m event

The 2016 national swimming-diving 25m championship took place at the Hue city water sports center, Thua Thien-Hue province from March 18th-23rd.

The tour attracted 209 athletes from 18 delegations, competing in the events of freestyle, breast stroke, butterfly stroke, combat sidestroke, mixed relays (95 players/24 medal categories); and in the events of finswimming, double swimfins and relays (110 players/40 medal categories).

The annual event aims to evaluate the training quality in localities, thus seeking the best athletes for the national squad at the upcoming regional and international tours.

In the medal tally, the Ho Chi Minh city delegation finished first with 32 gold, eight silver and 10 bronze, following by Da Nang delegation with five gold, one silver and one bronze; and Quang Binh delegation with four gold, one silver and two bronze.

The Quang Ninh delegation, including best players from provincial water sports, rescue and diving centre, bagged 11 medals (one gold, six silver and four bronze), in which Nguyen Thi Kieu Oanh won gold in the 50m women’s double swimfins.

This is part of series activities to welcome the 85th anniversary of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union (March 26th), the 70th anniversary of Vietnam Sports Day (March 27th), 41st anniversary of Thua Thien-Hue liberation (March 26th) and 9th Hue Festival.
