The information was released at a press briefing in Ha Long city on the landing stage in Quan Lai commune, Van Don island district.

Accordingly, the Management Board for Relics and Beautiful Landscapes under Quang Ninh provincial Department of Culture and Sports coordinated with the Institute of Archaeology to conduct five excavation pits and two investigation pits on a total area of 66m2.

Dr. Le Thi Lien from the Institute of Archaeology introduced newly excavated artifacts

Most of the artifacts are debris, including crockeries of the Tran Dynasty, pottery and Chinese ceramics. There are also some coins. The initial excavation results indicate that Cong Cai - Son Hao landing stages used to be an important place in the Van Don commercial port. Therefore, it is necessary to localize the area to protect the relics and continue excavation for scientific research.

In March 2016, international experts also coordinated with the Institute of Archaeology and the Management Board for Relics and Beautiful Landscapes to conduct a survey at the landing stage. It aims to define the archaeological potential of the relics and the number of excavation sites in the future.
