Quang Ninh: Farmers earn hundreds of millions of VND from cross-bred litchi

Cross-bred litchi trees in the northern province of Quang Ninh provide high quality fruits which sell for at some VND30,000 per kilogram at the beginning of the season.

Despite hot weather in May, residents in Phuong Nam ward, Uong Bi city, harvest early litchi fruits. Dozens of trucks come to buy the fruits.

The litchi is classified at gardens before being transported to trading locations.

According to local authorities, in 2018, the fruits are grown on 371 hectares in accordance with Vietnam Good Agriculture Practice, yielding some 3,500-4,000 tons of fruits.

Gardener Tran Van Duong, 60, says his family cares for 170 litchi trees, using advanced technologies, for a yield of 8-10 tons of fruits, earning some VND300 million, compared to VND200 million in 2017.

Early fruits are sold at VND28,000-30,000 per kilogram.

The fruits are big, providing good flavor and high nutrition.

Each day, dozens of traders come to buy the fruits.
