OCOP programme for 2018-2020 approved

On behalf of Prime Minister, Deputy PM Vuong Dinh Hue, Head of the Steering Committee for the National Target Programmes, has signed Decision No. 490/QD-TTg approving the One Commune, Once Product (OCOP) programme, which will be implemented nationwide.

Accordingly, the OCOP programme is a programme of economic development in rural areas and is the solution and task in the implementation of the national target programme on building new rural areas.

The programme focuses on the development of agricultural, non-agricultural and service-based products in each locality in the value chain.

Quang Ninh is the first and leading province nationwide to implement the OCOP programme from 2013. From only 40 products and 30 units participating in the programme, now Quang Ninh has around 300 products and more than 200 participating units.

There are more than 4,700 agricultural products in the country, belonging to 5 product groups, of which there are over 2,500 food products, more than 1,000 beverages, 230 herbal products, and nearly 600 other products of the group. Rural tourism has also registered for the OCOP.

The Decision also provides for the calculation of capital sources and the structure of mobilised capital for the implementation of the programme with a total budget of approximately VND45,000 billion.

Deputy Prime Minister Vuong Dinh Hue also agreed on several solutions to be implemented regularly, including continuing communication to raise awareness for all levels of government from central to commune and village; and develop an OCOP implementation management system.
