India offers a specially designed training program on journalism to Vietnam

As many as 26 journalists from Vietnam are taking part in a training program on journalism and public relations specially designed and sponsored by the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India under Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) programme.

Addressing the launching ceremony held at the Dr. Marri Channa Reddy Human Resource Development Insitute in Hyderabad, Telangana, India, Dr Shashank Goel, Director General of the Institute and Spl Chief Secretary to Government of Telanganna, underlined that Journalism and Public Relations have a profound impact on shaping the society and driving global discourse. They serve as the voice of people, holding power to account and facilitate informed decision-making.

“However, the emergence of social media platforms and new technological innovations have brought about a profound transformation in the world of media with their speed and unprecedented access to global audiences”, he added. The role of media professionals, therefore, has been of great importance in upholding the principles of accuracy, impartiality, and ethical conduct in their pursuit of truth.

He hoped that this course will bring useful knowledge to Vietnamese journalists since Vietnam and India have many similarities in politics, society, and history.

According to Dr. Madhavi Ravulapati, Course Manager, the two-week training programme lectured by famous Indian journalism experts focuses on new types of journalism, modern journalism skills and content production for social media.

The course is especially designed for Vietnam.

The course especially designed for Vietnam aims to provide an in-depth training understanding of journalistic practices and ethics, develop skills in strategic communication and public relation, enhance media literacy and the ability to interact effectively with media, cultivate a strategic approach to public relations and stakeholder engagement, as well as provide practical training in writing press releases, media briefs and other communication materials.

Scholarships were given to 26 professional journalists who had successfully passed a writing test and an interview conducted by the Embassy of India to Hanoi and the Consulate General of India in Ho Chi Minh city.

Those participants are working at various press organizations across the country, one of whom works as an editor at Quang Ninh province’s Media Center (Quang Ninh Media Group).

The course is expected to contribute to enhancing the cooperation in journalism and public relations between the two countries.

Founded in 1976 by the Government, Dr. MarriChanna Reddy Human Resource Development Institute has been supporting the Government initiatives in capacity building for reforms, good governance, change management, and revamping delivery systems. The Institute conducts Foundation Courses for AII India Services, Central Civil Services and Military Engineer Services Officers and training programs for Officers across the country.

Quang Ninh Media Group (QMG) is the only pilot model in the country to integrate provincial-level information and press agencies including Quang Ninh Newspaper, Quang Ninh Radio & Television Station, Ha Long Newspaper, and Quang Ninh province’s official website.

QMG produces different types of media products including print newspapers, e-newspapers, television, radio, book publications, magazines, etc. In addition to traditional forms of media, QMG has developed a series of channels on social networks such as Youtube and Facebook to make its products more accessible to diverse customers and satisfy their increasing needs in this digital age.
