Quang Ninh ready to welcome first households on Tran island

Co To district, departments and organizations of Quang Ninh province, have prepared basic conditions to welcome the first 17 households to live on Tran island, an outlying island in the northeast of the country on the occasion of April 30.

So far, Co To district People’s Committee has finished and put into operation three reservoirs with a total capacity of 105,000m3 of water on Tran island. All three reservoirs are filled with water to supply the people and construction of next works.

In terms of construction process, Dong Bac Corporation has registered to support VND30 billion and is implementing bomb and mine clearance; preparing the ground; constructing sea embankments and roads in the population area, drainage infrastructure, 17 houses for households; supplying electricity by diesel generator, and installing water supply pipes connecting to the reservoirs to welcome households to the island before April 30.

The construction of administrative headquarters, schools, and clinics will be built in 2014-2015.

Tran island of Co To district has an area of approximately 5.5 km2. It has an important strategic position in the Gulf of Tonkin and is located about 7 nautical miles from the delimitation line of the Gulf of Tonkin and about 45km from the centre of Co To island district. The migration of people to Tran island to live, for socio-economic development in combination with protection of sovereignty over the sea and islands, is a crucial task.

The families living on Tran island will enjoy food aid for the first year, granted loans and subsidized loan interest rate. Children's study from preschool to high school on the island will enjoy tuition, school aids, and health insurance cards free of charge. They will also be supported with vocational training according to the policy on vocational training for people in agricultural sector and rural area of the State./.
